Urban Dyeing: Cherry Blossom

Experiment 2: Cherry Blossom
Ornamental plants have a long favor throughout history. Most invasive plants were introduced for ornamental reasons. For some people, showing that you had “exotic” plants species at your disposal was a kind of flex of wealth (ie. pineapples being rented for parties in England). More specifically, this can be tied to the colonization of the United States as settlers brought in European plant species and exotic species favored by Europe to make this land more familiar to them. Such started a long history of planting many european or asian plant species. One such example is the Cherry Blossom.
Cherry blossom is my chosen “colonizer” species for this experiment. It is representative on non-natives moving into Charlotte and changing the community.
Cherry Blossom Sample
Result
Result in exp. 2 was much stronger due to the nature of the blossoms. Congruent with the effect that people moving in have on the existing communities in Charlotte.
